A tack room from Cactus Containers is a modification our own fabrication crew performs on a 20 ft or 40 ft shipping container you buy from us. The work happens in-house at the yard in Decatur, Amarillo or Midland, Texas, and the finished unit is delivered to your barn, arena or acreage.
We publish a price for the two basic builds we get asked for most, in 20 ft and 40 ft, with every spec listed. Beyond those two, there is no fixed tack room spec — we can do less than the basic build or a good deal more, and anything off that spec is quoted per build. Tell us what you need to store and where it's going, and the nearest yard will put a number on it.
Tack rooms are built in two container lengths — 20 ft and 40 ft — and then configured to what you need. The container is the shell; the layout inside is decided with you before we quote it.

Standard ISO exterior dimensions. Same 8 ft width as a 40 ft container, half the length — the option to look at when the site is tight or you're storing for fewer horses. What goes inside is configured per build.

Built on a 1-Trip 20′ Standard container — 20′ L × 8′ W × 8.5′ H.

We can do less than this and we can do more than this — every tack room is built to order. Drop the pad racks, add twenty more feet of tie rack, run the saddle racks down both walls, skip the interior paint, add a window or a roll-up door — the two builds above are simply the specs we get asked for most, priced so you have a real number to work from.

Both totals are the price of the finished tack room at the yard, plus tax if applicable. Delivery is quoted separately, by distance from the yard that builds it.
The basic build above includes the 12″ solar fan, and our rent-to-own program covers containers with no plumbing or electrical in them. So the basic tack room, exactly as specced, is a buy-outright build.
Build the same tack room without the solar fan and it qualifies for rent-to-own. Same racks, same hooks, same insulation, same steel door, same paint inside and out — just the four corner intake vents doing the ventilating instead of a powered fan. Rent-to-own through Rental Partners runs 12, 24, 36 or 48 months with no credit check, and you can pay it off early at a 33% discount on the remaining balance.
So it's a straight choice, and both answers are good ones: take the fan and buy it outright, or leave the fan off and spread the cost. Tell the yard which way you're leaning and they'll quote it that way.
The two basic builds above are where most people start, not where they have to finish. A container tack room can be configured with any of the things below — how many, where they go, and which of them make sense for you is the conversation we have before quoting. The list above is a menu, not a spec sheet — none of it is a fixed inclusion beyond what's in the two basic builds. Once you move off those specs, the tack room is priced individually, on what the container is, the condition you want and what's being built into it. Call the closest yard or send a quote request and we'll work it out with you.
An online build-your-own tack room configurator is something we're working toward. It isn't live yet — for now, a phone call or a quote request is the fastest way to spec one out.
These are two completely different things and it's worth being clear about which one you're asking for.
Custom fabrication done in-house by our own crew, on a container you buy from Cactus Containers. We cut, frame and weld the work in at the yard in Decatur, Amarillo or Midland, and the finished tack room is delivered to you. You don't build anything.
Cactus Containers also sells standalone accessory kits — parts for customers who are modifying their own container themselves. Those are a separate product, we do not install them, and buying one is not how you get a tack room built. Different conversation entirely.
